Russia on Thursday publicly recognized West Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.

The announcement was made in a statement by Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs that addressed the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

In the statement, Moscow reaffirmed its "support for the two-state solution" while acknowledging that East Jerusalem should be the capital of the future Palestinian state.

Netanyahus besök var det första av en israelisk premiärminister i EU-högkvarteret på 22 år och följs av en månad av ett liknande möte med palestiniernas president Mahmud Abbas.

"Not the supposed protectionist Donald Trump, but the “free trade” wing of the Republican Party has taken the United States into a trade war that it can only lose. New sanctions against Russia passed by the House and Senate last week force Europe into a de facto alliance with Russia against the United States, and by extension with China as well. It is the dumbest and most self-destructive act of economic self-harm since the United States de-linked the dollar from gold on August 15, 1971, and it will have devastating consequences. The charade in the House and Senate may embarrass Trump, but it also poses a threat to European energy supplies as well as an extraterritorial intrusion into European governance. Berlin, Paris and Rome will conspire with Moscow to circumvent the sanctions while attacking the United States at the World Trade Organization and other international fora.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), and their counterparts in the House of Representatives allowed their dudgeon against a sometimes provocative president to overwhelm their sense of self-preservation. The sanctions will hurt Russia, but not nearly as much as they will hurt the United States over the long term. In their present form, however, the president will have no authority to remove sanctions imposed by Congress. That turns a feint into a threat. Wars have been started over less.

The Democrats along with the McCain Republicans, it will be remembered, accused Trump of undermining the Atlantic Alliance, of isolating the United States, and of handing a diplomatic victory to Russia. Not Trump, but his detractors have given Moscow a degree of leverage over Western Europe to which it has not aspired since the height of the Cold War in 1983, when Soviet premier Yuri Andropov considered a pre-emptive Russian attack in response to Western plans to deploy medium-range missiles in Germany.

Supposedly it was Trump who ignored the exigencies of international relations in favor of domestic political theater. Yet it is the Establishment wing of the Republican Party and its Democratic allies who combined to embarrass the president, without a moment’s consideration of the consequences of their actions. Among Washington’s elite, Trump Derangement Syndrome has nothing to do with ideology. It is about jobs and patronage. This is not hypocrisy. It is chutzpah."

Israel firefighters say all fires extinguished

Egypt provided assistance to Israel in extinguishing a major fire that broke out Tuesday and spread in several parts of the country, an Egyptian government source told official state news agency MENA on Sunday.

The source said that Egyptian assistance in firefighting operations was to “minimise the impact [of the fire] on people.”

There has been no official confirmation from Egyptian authorities that the country had provided help in putting out the fire.

The blaze spread through much of Israel, starting in Neve Shalom, the Judean Hills and Zichron Yaakov, a town just south of the major city of Haifa, forcing thousands to evacuate their homes, according to Israeli media reports.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Friday that Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority assisted in firefighting efforts.

Other countries that provided assistance include the US and Turkey.

As Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev prepares to visit Israel and Palestine on Nov. 9-11 to facilitate peace negotiations, Russia and Israel find themselves recovering from a diplomatic spat that could not only have derailed those attempts but also soured their relationship.

Members of the Knesset’s (MKs) Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee left for Russia on Sunday to mark the 25th anniversary of renewed direct relations between Israel and the Russian government.

The delegation, headed by committee chair Avi Dichter (Likud), included MKs Robert Ilatov (Yisrael Beytenu), Aliza Lavie (Yesh Atid), and Eyal Ben-Reuven (Zionist Camp).

The MKs will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Middle East envoy, Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov, and top Russian brass.

Dichter noted the warming relations between Israel and Russia, suggesting they offered a unique opportunity to gain support from Russia on issues ranging from the Iranian nuclear threat to anti-Israel incitement in the United Nations.

”A broader base for these relations will [make it easier] to present to the Russian leadership Israel`s position on anti-Israel stances in international institutions – such as UNESCO`s resolution regarding the Temple Mount, which to us is outrageous and unacceptable,” said Dichter.

”My goal during this visit will be to promote more balanced and sensible positions related to Israel`s interests. Such positions may cause countries which look up to Russia to follow suit.”

Specifically, Dichter said, he planned on ”presenting the true intentions of Iran, which, de facto, operates as the leading terror state in the world, against Israel and other countries in the region.”

The trip comes on the heels of a series of comments by senior Russian officials on Israel and the relationship between the two countries.

In October, Vladimir Putin gave a nod to Israeli anti-terror efforts during a speech at the Valdai International Discussion Club, suggesting the Jewish state was a good example of how Western nations ought to confront terrorism.

Last week, Russian Premier Dimtry Medvedev spoke with Israel’s Channel 2, boasting of “warm, very good relations with Israel.”

Medvedev is scheduled to visit Israel this Thursday.

 A Russian diplomat said the Russian Defense Ministry oversaw a
shipment of anti-aircraft artillery platforms and ammunition to the Kurdish Regional Government in March 2016. The diplomat identified the artillery as the ZU-23 anti-aircraft artillery.
  "The weaponry was transferred in the presence of the Russian ambassador and consul-general as well as the Peshmerga deputy chief of general staff,"
Russia's consulate-general in Iraq, Artyom Grigoryan, said.
  In remarks to Russia's state-owned RIA Novosti News Agency, Grigoryan said KRG received ZU-23 artillery guns as well as 20,000 shells. He said five anti-aircraft systems arrived in northern Iraq on March 14.   ZU-23 has been described as a 23 mm Soviet-era weapon with a range of  2.5 kilometers. The twin-barrel gun could also be used against ground targets, including vehicles and troops.
  Grigoryan said the Russian delivery was coordinated with the Baghdad government. He did not elaborate, but officials said arms talks between Moscow and KRG were planned for April.
  "After the delivery of weapons shipment on March 14, the Russian ambassador said it was not a single delivery," Grigoryan said. "The ambassador stressed that Russia is hoping that these weapons will help the Peshmerga [Kurdish] and the Iraqi armed forces to defeat Islamic State terrorists."

General Zhao Keshi, member of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC) and director of the Logistics Support Department under the CMC, met with a logistics delegation of the Israel Defense Forces in Beijing last week.

Zhao Keshi welcomed the delegation Tuesday and said that the friendly exchange between the Chinese people and the Jewish people goes back to ancient times, an assertion that has little mention in credible historical sources. He also noted that the two nations had suffered catastrophes together and forged a profound friendship during World War 2.

Military relations between the two countries “have been developing smoothly in recent years, as manifested by the constantly deepened contacts in various areas and frequent exchange and pragmatic cooperation in military logistics,” Gen. Zhao noted, as reported by Chinese Ministry of Defense's news site.

He added that he hoped the exchange and cooperation in logistics between the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Israel Defense Forces would be further expanded and that this would elevate relations between the two armies in the area of logistics to a new high.

In 2014, Gen. Keshi met with Major General Kobi Barak, head of Technological and Logistics Directorate of Israeli Defense Forces.

He extended his welcome to Barak and reviewed the friendship between the Chinese and Israeli militaries. He said that in recent years, the relationship of the two armies was “developing smoothly,” as evidenced by increased cooperation and frequent exchanges.

Russia, Israel, to Sign Free Trade Agreement

Russia and Israel are about to sign a free trade agreement in the very near future, Russian Deputy Agriculture Minister Sergey Levin told TASS on Friday after talks with his Israeli counterpart.

“We’ve discussed the prospects of forming a free trade zone, which the government plans to put on paper within the shortest period of time,” Levin said, adding that the issue had also been discussed at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

Israeli Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel confirmed his intention to go ahead with the plan very soon.

The two sides agreed on reciprocal purchases of agricultural products, setting up joint ventures and the introduction of agricultural high-tech, Levin said. Russia would like to increase its sale of wheat, beef and eggs to Israel, while Israel, a world power in agricultural technology, is ready to share its expertise with its Russian trade partners.

Russia and Israel plan to establish a Moscow-based agricultural technological demonstration center, Ariel told TASS, adding that Israeli export to Russia has been decreasing recently due to the ruble’s devaluation, implying Israel would like to see a solution to the price gap, to encourage both exports and imports.

Ryssland har släppt fram Hizbollah nära Jordansk-Israeliska gränsen, de två länderna rasande på Putin.

Jordan och Israel har skickat rasande meddelanden att Putin brutit sina löften att hålla Hizbullah från gränsen mellan Syrien och Israel/Jordanien. Situationen är kritisk - Jordanien och Israel kan tvingas slå tillbaka.

Putin blickar över mycket mer än Syrien.

En kommentar i artikeln: de turkiska vapnen som sköt ner det ryska planet var antagligen köpta från Israel medan de fortfarande var vänner och inte Erdogan drabbats av åtskilliga hysterianfall och maktgalenskap till hans egen nackdel.

Många internationella artiklar nämner att telefonmeddelanden från Sinai till Syrien är en väsentlig anledning till varför man alltmer tror att en bomb i planet kan ha varit orsaken.

Vad de glömde att meddela är att signalspaningen till stor del skedde från Israel. Länk. Liksom att få nämnde att Israel hjälpte till med sökandet i Sinai. CNN.  Såg du nån svensk massmedialeverantör som nämnde det?

För två år sedan skrev Egyptiska media att Egypten var bland de minst säkra länderna i Mellanöstern och Israel bland de säkraste, länk. Sånt förändras ju hela tiden - på den tiden var Sverige också rätt säkert och hade inte varannan förstasida full med mordbränder, skottlossning och knivhugg som vår regering avsiktligt har importerat.
