US media outlets have reported on recent comments by an Iranian military leader, who spoke of a desire to expand Iranian military influence into Europe and the US.
The remarks have reignited opposition to President Obama’s policies on Iran, which his opponents claimed contributed to the expansion of Iran’s military influence in the Middle East and the world.
Iranian military leader - Salar Abnoush - was recently quoted saying the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) aim to infiltrate the United States and Europe, under the order of Iran’s Supreme leader.
Abnoush, deputy coordinator of Iran’s Khatam-al-Anbia Garrison (an IRGC command front), said Friday the “IRGC will be in the US and Europe very soon” to bolster the Iranian regime’s influence in the region.
In September US Congress officials accused Obama of facilitating Iran’s support of terrorism.
Observers say Iran has used a cash windfall, resulting from last summer’s nuclear agreement, to upgrade its military capabilities.

Congressional Republicans were critical of the Obama administration for sending $400 million in “ransom” to Iran as it coincided with the release of American prisoners.
