Police arrest Arabs on suspicion of arson

A Shin-Bet investigation indicates arson was committed for nationalistic reasons.

Three residents of the Arab village of Iskaka were arrested three weeks ago on suspicion of arson. The report was cleared for publication Sunday morning.
The three were arrested in a joint operation of the Shin Bet internal security service, the “Ephraim” Regional Brigade and the anti-terror unit of the regional police.
The three are suspected of arson near the village and near the southern access route to the city of Ariel.
Those detained were 19-year old Hamdan Sakar Hamdan Laami, 19-year old Javad Muchmad Faiz Daher, and 24-year old Yazid Ahmed Hamdan Laami.

The Shin Bet investigation revealed that the arson was nationalistically motivated. The cases were turned over to the military prosecution which will handle the case. They were part of the wave of arson attacks against Israel's forests at the end of November.

Tiotusentals invånare har evakuerats från sina hem under de senaste dagarna, nu senast har Harashim i norra Israel utrymts sedan en brand uppstått i närheten av staden. Två fängelser har tömts i landet, och under natten var invånarna i Beit Meir tvungna att fly en skogsbrand som uppstått i bergen utanför Jerusalem, skriver Yedioth Ahronoth.

Brandkåren har däremot lyckats tygla branden som hotade storstaden Haifa, landets tredje största stad.

Flera länder hjälper till i arbetet med att släcka elden: USA, Ryssland, Italien, Turkiet, Grekland, Kroatien, Cypern och den palestinska myndigheten har skickat utrustning och manskap. USA flyger in en jumbojet som byggts om för att kunna vattenbomba.

The Arab world took to social media on Thursday to celebrate the wildfires that have broken out across Israel.

The hashtag in Arabic “Israel is burning” became especially popular on Twitter as Arabs rejoiced the fact that tens of thousands of Israelis were forced to evacuate from their homes.

The hashtag became especially popular in Egypt, reported the Walla! Hebrew-language website, where many Twitter users claimed that the fires were "punishment from God" for the so-called “Muezzin Law” which would prohibit mosques from using loudspeakers to call for prayer.

"Allah will burn their hearts," tweeted Kuwaiti cleric Nabil Ali al-Awad, who has nearly 8.6 million Twitter followers, according to Walla!.

"He will burn their homes, their money and their cemeteries, because of what they did the faithful," he added.

Kuwaiti preacher Mishary Rashid Alafasy, who has 11.6 million followers on Twitter, tweeted wishes of success to the fires.

Meanwhile, Ofir Gendelman, the Prime Minister’s spokesman for the Arab media, took to Twitter himself to condemn the phenomenon.

“Arabs & Palestinians on social media rejoice over the wildfires that have erupted across Israel. Despicable fanatic hatred. #Israelisburning,” he tweeted.
